Reach and Rise Group Mentoring Director

The Y is looking for a cause-driven leader with a passion for impacting youth, as we continue to grow our Reach & Rise Mentoring Program. We are searching for a part-time director for the Reach & Rise Group Mentoring Program, a national YMCA mentoring program that pairs trained mentors with groups of mentees for periods of 8 to 16 weeks.

The Group Mentoring Director must have a background in mental health or social work, with a master’s degree completed or in progress. The director will establish the Reach & Rise Group Program Model by recruiting, training, and matching volunteers, as well as responsible for managing risk. The director ensures uniformity of training curriculum, data collection, outcome objectives, and ongoing clinical support.

SWIM INSTRUCTOR

Part Time Hourly
Pay Grade: $7.25-$8.50

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for planning and conducting swim lessons according to YMCA and Red Cross guidelines and to help people learn to be safe when they are in, on or around water. To always ensure the safety of class participants while teaching and to promote the four core values of the YMCA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Represent the YMCA’s four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
  1. Be familiar with course materials and know how to use them effectively.
  2. Create a non-threatening environment encouraging participants to meet course objectives.
  3. Must be cheerful, energetic, and emotionally present and must be a good listener and communicator.
  4. Cover all material required in a course
  5. Ensure that participants meet course completion requirements and receive completion certificate.
  6. Submit completed course reports to Aquatic Coordinator.
  7. Attend regular trainings as assigned by Aquatic Coordinator

Must maintain an excellent attendance record.

RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Training and First Aid
  2. American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent
  3. WSI or YSI Certification
  4. Knowledge of child development
  5. Knowledge of infant and preschool aquatic theory and practice.
  6. Knowledge of progressive aquatic theory and practice.
  7. Knowledge of lesson planning, administrative and program operations.

Knowledge of learning theory, course design and customizing to adults, persons with disabilities and helping participants meet their individual goals and objectives.

Housekeeping

Part Time: 20-28 hours per week

POSITION SUMMARY: To provide a positive, high energy and safe environment within the YMCA facility by being responsible for laundry, mopping and vacuuming, bathroom maintenance and janitorial duties under the guidance of the Facilities Director. Housekeeping staff with keeping all areas of the branch clean, safe and well maintained.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Follow emergency procedures and safety precautions. Follow procedures for reporting all accidents, incidents, and hazards.
  2. Accept additional assignments as deemed appropriate, within the scope of the job description.
  3. Provide Excellent customer Service
  4. Maintenance of fitness floor and studios
  5. Bathroom maintenance and janitorial duties

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  2. Must have successful experience in routine maintenance, janitorial machinery, and application and safe handling of chemicals.
  3. HS Diploma
  4. Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens.

Early Learning Center staff

Child Care Lead Teacher – Toddler & Transition Classrooms

Position Summary:

Full-time hourly. Provides direction for the program and classroom, and implements program curriculum; making sure that social, physical, emotional, and intellectual growth is being promoted.  Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring; while also making sure that all rules and regulations of state licensing and Path to Quality (PTQ) are being met and adhered too.  Classroom teachers will strive to make sure that their classroom and all staff in it are operating at the highest quality, and that all children and families are being treated with dignity and respect.

Main Qualifications:

  • CDA or higher (or in process of receiving certification or degree) and  must provide copy of certificate/diploma or class schedule.
  • High School diploma or GED, must provide a copy.
  • Experience working with children is prefered.
  • Basic computer skills.

BEFORE/AFTER SCHOOL SITES

We are hiring for two before/after school sites at the YMCA Early Learning Center, Northwestern & Taylor Elementary.  These positions will be teachers’ assistants in our programs; the available hours will be 6 a.m. – 9 a.m. & 3 p.m. – 6 p.m., applicants will also be able to request either before or after if they choose.  Applicants must have their high school diploma/GED and be able to complete all required training.  Child Care experience or pursuing a degree in a child related field is preferred.  Elementary Education or Early Childhood degrees are a great bonus.  Apply at the YMCA Early Learning Center at 701 St Joseph Dr, Kokomo

SWIM INSTRUCTORS AND LIFEGUARDS

The YMCA is looking for experienced swim instructors and lifeguards to join the family at the Y. Help the youth of today learn to be healthy while they increase their self-esteem and learn life skills such as goal setting and determination.
Childhood development and swimming progression knowledge is needed for instructors, and lifeguards must have a current lifeguard certification.

We are looking for certified personal trainers who understand the heart of the Y is to help inspire people to live a healthier life, in every area. Personal training hours: Flexible, although early morning, evening and weekend availability is preferred.

Assistant Director of Healthy Living

POSITION SUMMARY:
Assistant Director of Healthy Living will assist Director of Healthy Living and Sports with the day-to-day operations in the Health and Wellness, Group exercise, Personal Training, and Chronic Disease, which includes the development, expansion, implementation and management of these programs and the training, evaluation and supervision of the staff who deliver them. The assistant may supervise and perform personal training, group exercise and, wellness orientations, health management programs and assessments. Additionally, the position is involved in coordinating the additional staff that will engage with members on the wellness floor, group exercise, through related activities, programs and events.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
a. Work with staff to develop growth opportunities and to increase capacity within organization. Recruit and retain qualified wellness staff (i.e. personal trainers, fitness instructors).
b. Responsible for supporting Director in developing annual budget of anticipated income and expenditures. Support Director in maintaining, controlling and evaluating the income/expenses of budget. Responsible for generating required reports for association and branch.
c. Hire, train, evaluate and coach staff and volunteers in assigned areas. Facilitates communication and models relationship building skills, including listen first, in all interactions.
d. Creates Health & Wellness (Group Exercise) schedule and manages coverage for all shifts and staff scheduling.
e. Establishes new program activities and expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans and develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations to improve health and wellness.
f. Ensure Wellness Mission Partners and other collaborative partnerships expectations are met and significant value is received by both employers and employees.
g. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in all programs (i.e. personal training, small group, chronic disease, etc…)
h. Development of member progress reports and wellness programs outcomes and measurable.
i. Assist in developing and controlling department budgets related to this position.
j. Identify and resolve problem areas to ensure member satisfaction related to healthy living activities and events.
k. Follow emergency procedures and safety precautions. Follow procedures for reporting all accidents, incidents and hazards.
l. Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events. Including recruitment of volunteer leadership.
m. Accept additional assignments as deemed appropriate, within the scope of the job description.
n. Ensures all equipment is in working order. Responsible for reporting non-functioning equipment for repair and ensuring service date follow up within 24 hours.
o. Assists with special events planning and delivery, including but not limited to: Healthy Kids Day, and other Health & Wellness events.
p. Responsible for assisting Health and Wellness Director with driving Personal training revenue and expansion of Chronic Disease programming in order to exceed branch year end goal.

QUALIFICATIONS:
a. Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Sports Management or related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
b. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
c. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in programming (sports & health and wellness)
d. Be a certified personal trainer through National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), American Council on Exercise (ACE), or American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) or other reputable certification organization.
e. Previous supervisory and management experience in customer service field/sports/wellness field preferred (Minimum of one year)
