Can I use my Kokomo Family YMCA membership at any other YMCA?

Yes.  The YMCA of Kokomo participates in the AWAY program with YMCAs on a national level.  That means that you may take your card with you when you travel and be treated as  a member at many YMCAs around the country.  Each YMCA has it's own policy regarding how they honor the AWAY program depending on local policy-makers.  If you plan on traveling and want to know if there is a YMCA in the area you are going to --- ask us!  We will check to see if there is a YMCA and if you would like we can even contact that YMCA and find out their policy regarding the AWAY program.

Likewise, if you are an out-of-town member of another YMCA coming to Kokomo, you may use our YMCA in your time in town.  Our requirements are as follows: 1) you must show a current membership card from your home YMCA; 2) you must show a valid picture ID, provide a date of birth, and sign a "Sex Offender Registry Check Consent Form" (we require ALL members and guests to be checked); and 3) understand that your first three visits to our YMCA will be free of charge.  Any further visits will be available at half of our normal guest fee.

How old do my children have to be to be in the YMCA without my supervision?

Generally speaking, ten (10) is the minimum age for children to be allowed in our building without a parent also in the building.  Ten (10) is also the age for a child to be in the swimming pool unsupervised by a parent.  Here are some further guidelines:

Building:
10 years plus - May be in building without a parent or guardian
6-9 years - May be in the building with a family member who is 10 years or older.  Must be signed in at the front desk if an adult is not staying in the building.
Less than 6 years - Must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

Swimming Pool:
10 years plus - May be in pool area without a parent or guardian
8-9 years - May be in the pool area with a family member who is 10 years or older.  However, a parent of guardian MUST be in the building.
Less than 8 years - Must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

Can my child bring in a guest for the day?

It depends.  A youth that is a part of a family membership may bring in one guest at a time IF a parent signs both the youth and their guest in at the front desk.  If the youth meets the age requirements outlined above, then the parent does not need to stay in the building.  If the youth does not meet the age requirements, then the parent MUST stay in the building.

Youth members have no "guest privileges".

How many guests can I bring in?

Each family & adult membership receives three (3) free guest passes per year.  Any additional guest passes beyond those may be purchased at the front desk.  Cost for the guest passes (after the first three) can be found by contacting the YMCA at 457-4447.  There is NO limit to the number of guest passes that may be purchased during the year.

However, members may bring just one (1) guest with them during each visit.  One guest is defined as either a single person or a single family.  Guests are limited to a maximum of three (3) visits during each calendar year.  Guests WILL also have to provide

How do I go about bringing a guest into the YMCA?

Simply bring your guest to the YMCA (or meet them here!) and follow the procedures above.  Guests must also agree to bring a valid picture ID, provide a date of birth, and sign a "Sex Offender Registry Check Consent Form" (we require ALL members and guests to be checked).  We'll take care of the rest.

I am a member of the YMCA.  How much will it cost to attend aerobic classes?

Several years ago the YMCA staff and Board made a decision to include the aerobic fitness classes as a part of the membership fee.  In other words, once you are a member, all of our aerobic classes are yours included with your membership!  That includes our water aerobics schedule as well.  If you are not a member of the YMCA then there is a fee to participate in the classes.  Those fees vary by program and are available to you on the appropriate pages of this site.  A monthly pass for non-members to our fitness classes can be purchased at the front desk as well.

Can my boy/girlfriend and I join the YMCA as a family if we live together?

No.  Our YMCA defines a family as a husband & wife, or a single parent, and any dependant children aged 23 years and younger living under the same roof.  However, we welcome you to join as two adult memberships.

What is the cost of the "Child Watch" program for members?

Our "Child Watch" program is free to members.  Child Watch is a service we provide to our members so they can enjoy the YMCA and it's programs while your kids are kept in a safe, friendly, and clean environment --- right on site!  Our hours for the Child Watch program are Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM; and Monday through Thursday, 3:30 - 8:00 PM.  Children from birth through 10 years are welcome to utilize this service.

I am not a member.  Can I pay a daily fee to use the YMCA?

The only way that you may pay a "daily fee" is by visiting the YMCA as a guest of one of our members.  We DO NOT sell a stand alone daily pass.  The YMCA is a membership organization and we take great pride in providing our members with the best service possible.

I would love to be a member of the YMCA.  However, I cannot afford it.  Am I just out of luck?

   Absolutely NOT!

One of the most significant realities of the YMCA is that we take our mission, "to put Christian principles into practice" very seriously.  Our mission statement also states that we are available "for all".  That includes those that are struggling to make ends meet financially.  So, each year the YMCA conducts it's annual Partner With Youth Campaign in the late winter and early springtime.  During this campaign we solicit the community for the funds we will need each year to underwrite the cost of many memberships and program services.  We have experienced great success in the past several years in this campaign.

All that you will need to do is to come in and visit our Member Services desk and speak with Chris.  She will walk you through the process from application to acceptance.  There is a verification of income process that you will need to complete.  If you qualify, our subsidized memberships range, on a sliding scale, from 10% to 90% subsidized.
